Sponsoring a donkey can be the ideal gift for your family and friends.

El Refugio del Burrito (literally, 'donkeys' shelter') is a non-profit organisation working for the well-being of donkeys and mules. Since 2002, its members have been rescuing and taking care of specimens, and the institution has become a branch of The Donkey Sanctuary, in Southern England, which has thus turned to face continental Europe.
Located in Fuente de Piedra, in the north of Málaga, El Refugio's seat -a traditional Andalusian country house surrounded by leafy olive trees and other typical houses- has become a real paradise for the animals living there. Visiting it is the best way of learning about what these people do.
Visits to the place are free of charge. If you go, you'll learn a lot of donkey stories and be able to talk to the staff. You'll also be in contact with beautiful landscapes, including the flamingos' annual migration, which can be seen from the nearby Fuente de Piedra Lake.
If you're more of a charitable person, you might like sponsoring one of the cute donkeys living in El Refugio -Alberto, Belén, Erica, Farruquito, León, Momo, Monty, and Romero. You'll need to pay only 10 euros a year, and you'll be entitled to a sponsorship certificate, a picture of your donkey, and periodic health reports. They only drawback is that you can't take you donkey home!
